Prior to that the 3 of them sailed with Whitebeard too and as with Roger became friendly with the crew until they were scouted by Roger.
By following the standard journey using the log pose all paths converge at one island. this island holds the key in informing the travelers of the Poneglyphs, Raftel and their relevance.
Finding this island caused Roger to turn back in search for all the poneglyphs so that he could complete the journey.
Inuarashi, Nekomamushi, Kin'emon, Kanjuro, Raizo and Momonosuke want to search for Marco in order for him to help them fight Kaido.
During their time on Whitebeard's ship, Inu and Neko became close with Marco and now they wish to seek his help in defeating Kaido.

In order to avenge Whitebeard, Ace and Thatch, Marco and the remaining Whitebeard pirates went to war against Blackbeard, however Blackbeard's forces were too strong and Marco and the crew weren't able to match them, ending up losing against Blackbeard badly.

The alliance is splitting into 3 groups.
Group 1 will go to Whole Cake Island to bring back Sanji and copy Big Mom's Road Poneglyph.
Group 2 will return to Wano with Law's submarine and wait in a safe place
Group 3 will search for Marco.
All the groups will converge in Wano once their objective is complete.
After Zou shook Luffy heard a voice he didn't recognise. This is similar to what happened in Fishman Island, however then Luffy was weak from blood loss to realize what it was but this time he hears it clearly.
This is likely a sign of his Voice of All Things awakening, which will allow him to hear the poneglyphs.
